December: Agile, GigaFloat, and DSLs

Next meeting: Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 3pm.

  • [35 min] Domain Specific Languages (DSLs) – DSLs are a new name for an old thing. You could use bison/flex/yacc to generate compilers that interpret your own mini-language. However, Ruby’s syntax and metaprogramming capabilities makes it conducive to doing it within Ruby itself. DSLs makes it easy to write powerful systems. Wil Chung will show you how.
  • [30 min] GigaFloatVictor Hong will take us on a tour of GigaFloat.com, his own Rails/Hobo-based project. Learn the practicial aspects of developing and deploying a Rails-based project: hosting choices, tricks of capistrano/deprec, backup/restore all of your data, email generation and setup, some useful plugins, and more.

Please be sure to RSVP at Meetup.com so we know how many to expect. See you there!
